She achieved a score of 249.7 in the final round to claim the top spot. Additionally, India’s Mona Agarwal won a bronze medal, marking another historic achievement. Avani’s victory is particularly notable as she set a new Paralympic record.
The final round saw a nail-biting finish between Avani Lekhara and South Korea’s Yunri Lee. Up until the last shot, Avani was in the silver medal position. However, her final shot scored 10.5, while the Korean shooter scored only 6.8 on her final attempt, resulting in a final score of 246.8 for Lee.
Avani Lekhara Breaks Her Own Record: Avani Lekhara, who competed at the Tokyo Paralympics at just 19 years old, previously won gold with a score of 249.6, setting a Paralympic record. At the Paris Paralympics, she surpassed her own record with a score of 249.7. Zhang Kui Ping of China, the silver medalist from Tokyo, finished last in this event.
Avani Lekhara has now become the first Indian shooter to win gold medals in two consecutive Paralympic Games. No Indian shooter has achieved this feat before. Her challenge isn’t over yet as she will also compete for a medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. Lekhara won a bronze in this event at the Tokyo Paralympics and aims to improve her medal color in Paris.
